Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1989 Topps Series 1
The 1989 Series 1 trading cards are based on the pilot episodes of the 1987 cartoon franchise. Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. The series aired as part of CBS's Saturday Morning Lineup before moving to the after-school schedule in syndication.
Here are some fun facts about the cartoon series In the original comics, all four turtles had red bandanas. For the TV show, TMNT creator decided to give each Turtle a different color to make it easier to tell them apart: Leonardo has a blue bandana, Raphael a red bandana, Donatello a purple bandana and Michelangelo an orange bandana. This color scheme became so popular it eventually became a staple of the TMNT saga. Townsend Coleman said the catch phrase "Cowabunga" was not scripted. He just blurted it out in an ad-lib and the studio liked it so much is became Michealangelo's catch phrase. When developing this show, it was decided to make April O'Neil a news reporter instead of a lab assistant and part-time antique dealer. Writer made this change so to give the turtles a source to find out information (since the show was made before the world wide web).
