Hello!
Up for sale is a very versatile overdrive pedal by Earthquaker Devices .... the Plumes !
You're probably saying "Oh, boy. Yet another variant of the green screamer box that everyone replicates."
While it does have that essential DNA, with that awesome blend of overdrive with your original signal mixed in, this unit has way more available sounds on tap!
In each of the 3 modes, there is plenty of gain range on tap, from light crunch to a turbo overdrive. Always staying clear and avoiding the pure distortion territory.
Mode 1 gives you that classic crunchy valve amp tone which is the staple of (and is the gold standard of) most guitarists' sound.
Mode 2, which is my favorite, is what Earthquaker calls the "clean boost mode." In addition to a volume boost, to my ears, it gives you a pleasant brightness, maybe even a high mid boost, really handy for solos and leads punching out in the mix !
Mode 3 is " an asymmetrical silicon diode arrangement similar to the stock screamer but with more output and clean clarity; the tone some people describe as “transparent.” I don't know, I feel like it's a little darker and lower in volume than mode 2. So be prepared to bump up the volume and probably the gain a little bit. The pedal sounds FANTASTIC on all 3 modes and throughout the ENTIRE gain range..... just really depends on what sonic flavor you're trying to get out of your equipment! This is all enhanced by a very responsive tone control. I tested this pedal with a limited edition Epiphone Les Paul Junior through a Fender Vibrochamp XD (both for sale here on ebay) and I actually turned the tone to about 10 am or 11. And Earthquaker is right, this pedal has quite a bit of headroom. I find that I just have to turn the volume to about 10am and I am already around unity gain ! All of this in a compact box that you will put up against any Ibanez TS variant out there! Here is a description in the manufacturer's words, because I'm sure I didn't cover everything about this pedal: Hand-built, the unique Plumes™ pedal is an all-analog approach to a classic tube-like overdrive circuit. The reimagined tone control on the Plumes is finely tuned to sculpt low end, clear top end, and focus midrange with blooming sustain. Offering 3 different clipping voices, loads of headroom and almost three-dimensional clarity that will push your amp over the edge, the Plumes will be your go to pedal. EarthQuaker Devices Plumes Small Signal Shredder Overdrive Pedal Features
Unique approach to a classic tube-like overdrive circuit offering more headroom, lower noise and far better signal integrity Features 3 different clipping options: symmetrical LED, asymmetrical silicon, and no diode OpAmp drive Reimagined tone control to sculp low end, clear top end, and focused midrange True bypass Silent relay-based switching Features EarthQuaker Devices’ proprietary Flexi-Switch Technology All-analog signal path Lifetime guarantee The Plumes is a low to medium gain overdrive based on the trusty lime-green overdrive that has been an industry staple since its inception. This is the kind of overdrive that works in conjunction with a good valve amp to create the warm saturation people like to call “transparent”. While this circuit has been the foundation of countless other overdrives available today, Earthquaker feels the Plumes has a few twists and turns to make it unique enough to stand out. Last, but certainly not least, the Plumes offers three different clipping options to ensure that it will work with a wide variety of gear and playing styles. Mode 1 is symmetrical clipping utilizing a pair of light emitting diodes. This is the crunchiest setting the Plumes has to offer. When played through a clean amp, it’ll deliver a reasonable facsimile of that classic crunchy valve amp tone. Mode 2 is clean boost mode. This eliminates the soft clipping diodes altogether and leaves you with straight OpAmp drive. This is perfect for pushing your clean tone out in front or driving the preamp of an already overdriven amp into tasteful breakup territory. Mode 3 is an asymmetrical silicon diode arrangement similar to the stock screamer but with more output and clean clarity; the tone some people describe as “transparent”. The Plumes features EarthQuaker Devices relay-based “soft touch” Flexi-Switch Technology for both momentary and latching footswitch operation as well as a very low 25mA current draw. Each and every Plumes is built one-at-a-time by delightful little hands in Akron, Ohio; the charred, black heart in the heart of it all… This pedal has been taken out of the box only to be fully tested and to have pictures taken. Think of it as another discriminating layer of quality control by a gigging musician ! So you don't have to worry about the hassle of returns, unlike with the big box stores! So what are you waiting for? I hope you buy it now! Thanks for looking and please read the condition description, these listing details and examine the pictures carefully.
